1. Create a Google Doc and GMail Account.
2. Create a presentation, the title page with your disease as the topic and you and your partner's full name as the subtopic.
3. Share the file with your partner and with your teacher - shawndra.fordham@dcsdk12.org.
4. Research your selected genetic disorder. Some suggestions are in the Wordle below. Please confirm your choice with Mrs. Fordham.
5. Your presentation (slides) should answer the following questions:
What is the disease? Why system does it affect?
What are the symptoms (main symptoms to understand the disease not every possible symptom)?
What is the mode of inheritance of the disease (dominant? recessive? sex-linked?
What chromosome is the gene on? What is the name of the gene?
What protein does that gene code for?
What is the life expectancy for this disease? Is it treatable or curable?
What is the age of onset of the disease?
Show what a genetic cross would be for two people that have the disease allele somewhere in the genotype (or one of the two have the allele). Explain this in your presentation.
Find good images (people with the disease, the chromosome it is on, the gene location on that chromosome, etc). Explain these images when you present.
6. Create your presentation. Send it to Mrs. Fordham and your partner initially. Save revisions as you go. Be neat, concise, and organized. Do not plagiarize. Enhance it with images. Aim for 2 - 5 minute presentations. Click here for the rubric
